As rare as a blue dog!
Launched in 1976, the Ford Fiesta was designed as a small, economical city car. Faced with increasing competition from compact sports models (Renault 5 Alpine, Volkswagen Golf GTI, Autobianchi A112 Abarth), Ford decided in the early 1980s to create a more powerful and attractive version. After the S versions (1.3 and 1.6), the brand introduced a true sports model: the Fiesta XR2.
Introduced in 1981, the XR2 marked the beginning of Ford's "XR" lineage (Escort XR3, Capri 2.8i).
