The essential, and nothing else
We find a familiar atmosphere: a 996 has already passed through our hands recently. This one is of a different nature, even simpler. Car radio, air conditioning, and that's it. No PCM.
This stripping down is not a lack of equipment, it's a guideline. A metallic paint, electric seats, air conditioning, its Tiptronic gearbox. And that's it. And that's all that's needed.
The Tiptronic: the misunderstanding
The automatic transmission scares people away. It has always scared people away. Those who have not experienced it judge it without knowing it. Five gears, not four. A mechanic that works, on a car that is over twenty-five years old. And paddles on the steering wheel for those who want to have fun.
It's a GT par excellence: a car that's easy to drive, capable of taking you to the ends of the earth, in a rather special atmosphere. After all, it's a 911.
At the wheel
At 120 km/h, the tachometer displays 2,000 to 2,600 rpm. Ten liters per hundred. A noise level measured at reasonable speeds, which matters today, when traveling really. Made to run on torque. Made to go far without consuming, driving gently off-peak.
Carrera 2: the 911 in its original form
A clarification that isn’t one: it is indeed a Carrera 2. Two-wheel drive. Less weight in the front, fewer moving parts, less mechanics, thus more reliability. A 996, an evolution of the early 911s, but a strict 911: two-wheel drive, as they have always been.
Our position in the market
Automatics are systematically sold cheaper than manuals. That's a fact. We have no intention of correcting it, nor of conforming to it. We are placing ourselves outside the market, a little on the fringes. Given the character of the 996, this automatic transmission suits it perfectly.
The price
In a large, serious used car dealership, the purchasing department and the sales department do not talk to each other: one buys at a price he deems suitable, the other estimates a market value without knowing anything about the cost, the refurbishment, or the maintenance. We operate in the same way, with only one head. We forget the cost, we forget what has been done: the car is ready, the car has a market value.
This one stands out: low mileage, very pure, from those early years of electronics of which there is not much left. No expenses expected.
